Treat our shelter pets this Halloween! Register for the Black Cat 5K Run & 1 Mile Fun Walk.

Thanks for your interest in volunteering at the Bucks County SPCA! We have a wonderful team of volunteers who serve our animals and our community. From bottle feeding kittens to stuffing Kongs for dogs, Bucks County SPCA volunteers make a difference every day.

Read below for details about our program, volunteer positions and available shifts, and the steps to get started.

What’s involved in volunteering?

  • All volunteers must have an email account that can be used to read and respond to regular communications and have access to the internet to utilize our volunteer portal.
  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age to work independently. Individuals between the ages of 13 and 17 are invited to volunteer with a parent. Both junior volunteers and their parents must complete our orientation process and subsequent training. Parents of junior volunteers provide direct, one-on-one supervision during a junior volunteer’s shifts.
  • We ask that all new in-shelter volunteers commit to volunteering eight hours per month, for at least six months. If you are looking for something shorter term that can be completed from home, please check out Help from Home page for some great ideas!
  • Volunteers must be able to understand and fulfill all responsibilities of their role independently. If an individual cannot volunteer on their own, we may require that someone volunteers alongside them. The assistant will be expected to meet all volunteer program requirements and complete our orientation process and subsequent training.
  • All volunteer training and communications are provided in English. Volunteers are responsible for reviewing and understanding materials essential to volunteer functions.

Path to Volunteer

Each prospective volunteer will need to complete the steps below. The process is the same for both in-shelter and foster volunteers.

Follow the link below to view the volunteer positions currently available and the shifts we are looking to fill for each.

BCSPCA Volunteer Opportunity Directory

If we have opportunities that match your schedule, your next step is orientation. Watch our orientation video and read our printed materials to learn more about our organization, the services we offer, and our volunteer program. After learning all about us, please complete our orientation review. Links to complete orientation can all be found on the home page of our Volunteer Opportunity Directory.

Most of our positions include specialized training.

  • After completing orientation, in-shelter volunteers start off by completing Shelter Support training and serving 8 hours in the position before attending other area-specific trainings.
  • Foster volunteers can jump straight to our online foster training, scheduled at least once a month.
