Barn Assistant


Bucks County SPCA is seeking experienced barn help at our Quakertown location. This is a temporary position and requires weekends. An ideal applicant is someone reliable with a flexible schedule. The position includes being able to muck stalls, feed, give water, and handle farm animals according to protocols. Lifting at times is also required in order to move supplies. Must be 18+ years and have a valid driver’s license.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all barn animals are fed, groomed, and exercised daily according to shelter procedures and veterinarian’s instructions
  • Keeps the barn stocked and is responsible for ordering and picking up supplies
  • Keeps the barn clean daily
  • Notifies Shelter Management about health concerns or needed barn repairs
  • Handles animals properly, humanely, and with compassion
  • Documents food and water intake, and excretions, notifying Shelter Management of abnormalities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Driver’s license required
  • Experience with animal care preferred
  • Experience with barn animals, poultry handling and care
  • Ability to take direction and work positively in a team environment
  • Physical requirements include ability to talk, hear, see, sit, stand, walk, and regularly lift and move up to 75 pounds
